A few months ago, I wanted to speak about a topic very close to my heart. I knew in my heart that I wanted to volunteer. I’m at the verge of saying it actually. And God heard my heart! A friend approached! I said yes though there’s a bit of doubt. Haha. Topic prepared. Outline done. Then, Sunday before the day I’m supposed to speak, I asked the Lord, “Lord is this really the topic? Do you approve of it? It’s what my heart tells me, but Lord, is alright?” and pooooof! the last slide of the speaker that week goes something like this (in the photo below). TYL.
If I were to post this question on your wall, ano ang ire-react mo?
Like as in “ok lang/ k lang/ ayos lang/ ayos naman”
Love as in “#feeling inlove”
Haha as in “ano yun”
Wow as in “ay may puso pala ako”
Sad as in “#FeelingBroken”
Angry as in “#WalangForever!”
So, what does the Bible have to say about your heart? Proverbs 4:23 Above all else, guard your heart for everything you do flows from it.
At ang heart ay 2nd most important organ next to the brain. Heart as something that feels our emotions, heart as something that has the ability to Love.
Disclaimer: Me not an expert at this thing. Me not Dr. Love. But I’m just sharing sa abot ng aking kakayahan. Based from lessons I learned along the way. You are very entitled to your own opinions. 🙂
But first, “Why guard your heart?*”
Because there has to be a reason why you’re doing something so that when you find yourself lost along the way, may dahilan ka para tumuloy.
Extremely valuable – in this world ano/sino ba yung mga bagay na may guard, body guard, security guard? (“Safeguard.” K. Da best kayo! Kainix haha!). Mga bank, armored vehicles, VIPs, atbp. Ganun din ang puso mo. Napakahalaga ng puso mo.
Source of everything – feeler. It is your heart that feels all the emotions – love, hatred, happiness, sadness and many more. Your heart gives you the reasons why you’re doing or not doing something. The mind can be conditioned. But the heart feels what it feels. The heart keeps you alive, not just existing.
Under constant attack – every now and then, may gusto manggulo sa puso mo. Tao man yan, o bagay o mga feelings. Nagkalat sila. All they want is to distract you, disturb you. That’s why you have to guard your heart.
And here’s the main topic. How to lessen and avoid heartaches. Bakit hindi ‘how to avoid’ lang? kasi hindi naman iyan nagyayari overnight. So we’ll start muna sa how to lessen, then by continued practice, eventually ay maiiwasan na din natin ang mga heartaches.
Point no. 1. Strengthen your heart. Sabi sa 1 Cor 13:4-7.
Love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy. It does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered. It keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes and always perseveres.
“Ha? Di ko gets. Paano naman magiging strong yung heart ko?”, you might ask. The verse is all about love. And that’s it. Love. If the physical body gets strong through constant workout or exercise or training, our heart gets strong through loving. Just love. Magmahal ka lang.
Love with purpose. Love with the love of the Lord. Love without expecting anything in return. Masakit ba magmahal? Loving many people /everyone does not hurt. What hurts is expecting to be loved back. Masarap magmahal. Masarap sa pakiramdam na magpadama ng love. Di ba?
Number 2. Secure your heart. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matt.6:21)
No one could better guard your heart than you.
Treasures, what do we do with treasures? We constantly think of them, right? Ikaw, who do you constantly think, text, chat, like, react to? Be careful of who you invest your emotions with. Be careful of late night conversations. Madali ma-fall (a term we all know). Sobrang dali. Don’t go with the flow. Go against the flow.
Number 3. Surrender your heart to God.
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it. “I the Lord search the heart and test the mind to give every man according to the fruit of his deeds.”Jer.17:9-10
When that happens, kanino ka pa ba lalapit.
At the end of the day, we can’t fully guard and protect our own heart but God can and will surely do.
Don’t go breaking our own heart or others’ hearts too. Strengthen, secure and surrender 🙂 God bless your dear heart!
